Have you ever been showing someone something on your phone and you get a private text message? That little notification banner pops up at the top of your screen and you can’t help but see it – you and the person next to you. Even though that little notification only has a few words, sometimes that’s more than enough to be um… more than you wanted that person to see.
There’s a fix for that! You can set your phone to only show the person’s name in the notification – no preview of the message itself. Whew! Here’s what it looks like when you’ve changed your settings.
A preview of the preview
Okay, here’s how to make that happen. It takes 30 seconds.
- Go to your Settings app
- Tap on “Notifications”
- Then, scroll down and tap on “Messages”
- On that screen, find the “Messages Options” section toward the bottom and make sure that “Show Previews” is turned OFF.
- You’re done! Now when you receive a text message, no preview of the actual message will show.
- Make sure and do the same thing on your iPad, if you receive text messages there.
A handy how-to visual
Now, you can rest assured that your private messages will stay private from stray glances.
